Ingredients
  

  • 12 fresh lasagna sheets (or dried)
  • 500 g ground beef
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 red bell pepper, diced
  • 400 g canned diced tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
  • Pinch of salt
  • 50 g smoked bacon bits (optional)

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 200°C (390°F).
    Make the tomato sauce: sauté onion and garlic, brown the ground beef, add bell pepper, bacon bits, tomato paste, diced tomatoes, and herbs. Simmer for 15 minutes.
    Prepare the béchamel sauce: melt butter, add flour, stir, and gradually add milk. Season with nutmeg and cheese.
    Layer the lasagna: start with a layer of tomato sauce, lasagna sheets, tomato sauce, béchamel, and cheese. Repeat until the dish is full.
    Bake for 25-30 minutes until the top is golden brown. Let it rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Vegetarian? Replace ground beef with eggplant and mushrooms.
  • Leftovers? Freeze for later use.
  • Extra flavor? Add a splash of red wine to the tomato sauce.
